Rebecca Milford is a British soprano known for her vibrant stage presence and expressive, communicative singing. As a young artist, she has already built a rich and varied career spanning opera, concert work, and outreach – performing across the UK and internationally.
In the 2024/25 season, Rebecca made her role debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Opera Kipling, and reprised her acclaimed Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel for The Merry Opera Company. She also made her international debut as Papagena in Wild Arts’ Magic Flute in Potsdam, while covering Pamina for their 2024 UK tour. On the concert stage, she appeared as Soprano Soloist in a Northern Irish tour of Handel’s Messiah with The Merry Opera Company.
During the 2023/24 season, Rebecca debuted as Pamina in The Magic Flute with The Merry Opera Company, earning praise for “combining power with humility” in her portrayal. She went on to sing Una Conversa in Suor Angelica at West Green House Opera and made her role debut as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel with Opera Kipling at the Camden Fringe and La Théâtre Basse-Passière, performances that earned five-star reviews and an Offie Award nomination. London Theatre 1 wrote:
“I was startled at first by the sheer power of Rebecca’s vocal force – she hits you like a hurricane. She’s a pocket battleship that’s for sure. Powerful, clear and direct, her singing is tremendously engaging.”
Other recent roles include Cinderella (Cinderella ’23, Merry Opera Company), Frasquita (Carmen, Opera Brava), Head Hen and cover Vixen (The Cunning Little Vixen, Hampstead Garden Opera), cover Gianetta (The Elixir of Love, Wild Arts Young Artist 2023), and cover Anne Page (Sir John in Love, British Youth Opera at Opera Holland Park).
Upcoming engagements include her English Touring Opera debut in 2026, performing Fiametta/Giulia in The Gondoliers and Anne Milbanke in Ada and the Code Crusaders.
As a recitalist, Rebecca is developing new programmes with pianists Alisdair Hogarth and Alex Norton, and is a regular performer for Songhaven, appearing across London and the South East. She was awarded the Anne Wyburd Prize for German Lied with Florent Mourier and has performed as Youth Music Ambassador for the Cuckfield Music Festival, supporting emerging artists and championing new voices.
Renowned for her commitment to outreach and education, Rebecca has worked as Creative Education Producer and Music Director for Brolly Productions’ The Stopping Place and served as Head of Education for Wild Arts. She now works as Senior Vocal Leader at Newham Music and as a Freelance Creative Director, leading large-scale creative music and theatre projects that inspire and connect young people across the borough.
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s Artist Master’s Programme (Distinction), Rebecca studied under John Evans and was supported by the Sheila White Scholarship.
